Mamba

Hi everyone.

Time fly’s when you’re in and out of lockdown with a feature film to finish. A couple of updates in this addition. Firstly, the archive clearance - ‘spreadsheet from hell’ continues to slowly turn green as the last of our licensing quotes come in so quite soon preparations will begin on our further funding submissions. Kate Dean from SynchHouse has joined the team to concentrate on the music side of things which you may be surprised to learn is a lot more complicated than the vision clips. So we’re still on track for January completion.

One of our featured interviewees is Paul Brennan, a long time fixture of Sydney exhibition and now champion of lost film causes. Paul was instrumental in gathering all the co operative elements that led to the UCLA restoration of the long lost 1930, two-strip technicolor, all talking Tiffany studios epic Mamba.

The story of how Paul located the only known existing mute print (residing in the care of Murray & Pat Matthews in Adelaide) which was then married with the tiffanyphone sound discs in America is a great story which sadly I didn’t have time to include in Splice Here. But I’m happy to say that the rough cut of Pauls hilarious interview will be an included extra on Kino Lorbers up coming DVD release of Mamba just in time for Christmas (hopefully).

And finally next years festival entry rounds begin this month for which I’m preparing the 110 minute version of Splice Here. We’re aiming high. More as that unfolds.

Stay safe.

Cheers

Rob (Bert)
