SO MUCH EDITING!

Hi all.

This month I thought I’d share a brilliant new publication put together by the George Eastman Museum & Selznick School of Film Preservation. I was asked to review The Art of Film Projection for the latest edition of the Journal of Film Preservation, published by FIAF (International Federation of Film Archives). It was a great honour to be asked and for this edition you can read it free, online. Here’s a link.

Journal of Film Preservation

The book is that perfect, ‘go too’ reference for the next generation of film projectionists. You might say; ‘well, how many people is that going to be’? Well, you’d be surprised and by how the role has changed. Gone are the manic days of ‘lace and run’ projection where a new print wasn’t expected to survive its initial run.

The new breed of projectionists are part film technician / showman, part film preservationist / historian. The places that still run film have a strong commitment to it, the experience and it’s survival. Print damage is completely unacceptable again; as it should be. The film prints that survive today are largely irreplaceable and projectionists must handle them accordingly.

In Splice Here news the edit is progressing really well, although I may have shot a teensy, weensy little bit to much footage which is turning into a lot of extra cutting hours. Having to many great stories to tell and interviews to share is a great problem to have… I suppose.

Stay home if you can. Stay safe.
